The Israeli military has been targeting military facilities, particularly in Beit Hanoun, where Hamas is believed to have had a strong presence
At least 70 people were killed in the Gaza Strip following recent Israeli military airstrikes, according to Palestinian medics. Among the victims, 17 died when two houses in Gaza City were hit, including one where members of the Al-Ghoula family were staying.
According to Reuters, neighbours reported hearing a massive explosion at around 2 am and found the house reduced to rubble, with many women and children among the victims. Medics continued searching for survivors, but several children were confirmed dead.
Another airstrike on a Gaza City home later killed five more people, with at least 10 others feared trapped under the debris. The toll from the airstrikes has reached 70, as clashes continue across Gaza. The Israeli military has been targeting military facilities, particularly in Beit Hanoun, where Hamas is believed to have had a strong presence. At least six other Palestinians died in strikes around Jabalia and Deir Al-Balah.
This latest escalation comes as diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire intensify. US President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, along with Qatar and Egypt, is working to bring an end to the 15-month-long war and secure the release of Israeli hostages.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials have vowed to continue efforts to bring all hostages back, warning those who harm them will be held fully accountable.
The ongoing conflict, which began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, has resulted in over 45,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza's health ministry.
