1.Meet Sarika: The actress who had to joins films at 5 for family
Sarika Thakur was born on October 5, 1960, and her life has been tough ever since she was a child. At 5, Sarika's father abandoned her, and the entire responsibility of Sarika was left to her mother. Soon she had to join films and worked as a child artiste. In no time, Baby Sarika became a popular child artiste due to her performances in movies like Majhli Didi, Hamraaz, and Satyakam.
2.Sarika became a star at 15
As an adult, Sarika made her debut with Rajshri Productions Geet Gaata Chal. By the age of 15, she became a star. In the late 70s to mid 80s, Sarika gained fame among the masses with her performances in films such as Vidhaata, Kranti, Pyaara Dushman, Devata, Satte Pe Satta, Razia Sultan, Nastik, and others films.
3.Sarika's romantic involvement with Kamal Haasan, getting pregnent with married superstar
As per media reports, Sarika and Kamal met on the sets of Raaj Tilak, and soon they got romantically involved. Sarika even got pregnant with his child. When she was expecting, Kamal was married to Vani Ganapathy. Her relationship with Kamal was heavily criticised, and Sarika faced backlash for her relationship. Soon after the birth of Shruti Hassa in 1986, the couple got married in 1988. Later they welcomed Akshara (1991). However, a few years after Akshara's birth, Kamal and Sarika parted ways, and they officially divorced in 2004.
4.Sarika went homeless, was left with only Rs 60
After her divorce from Kamal Haasan, Sarika was homeless and broke. In an interview with Simi Grewal, she said, “I just did something that was honestly good for me and my mother. It had to be done. It comes after a lot….you don’t make such decisions overnight. I left with Rs. 60 and my car. I coped. It was very hard—it was not just about where the next meal was going to come from, I just kept up with my friends—went to their houses, had baths at their homes, and at night, I slept in my car.”

5.Sarika's comeback after divorce, and her strive to success
After getting separated from Kamal, Shruti returned to Bombay in 2004 and started looking for work. In 2005, Sarika starred in Parzania, and that gave her the perfect comeback. Sarika went on to star in films such as Bheja Fry, and Manorama Six Feet Under. For her role in Parzania, Sarika won a National Award for Best Actress. This was her second National honour after Best Costume Design for Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram. On the work front, Sarika was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya's Unnchai.
