Food delivery has become an integral part of Indian life, and 2024 showcased some fascinating trends. A joint report by Zomato and Blinkit revealed interesting insights into what kept India's taste buds satisfied throughout the year.

Unexpected Searches
One of the most bizarre facts was that 4,940 users searched for "girlfriend" and 40 looked up "dulhan" or bride on the apps. Evidently, some were looking for something more than food to spice things up in life!

Regional Favorites
Delhi-NCR emerged as the food delivery capital of India with 12.4 crore orders in 2024. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana accounted for 10.5 crore orders together. Bengaluru and Mumbai went head-to-head where Bengaluru outsold Mumbai by 30 lakh orders.

Most-Loved Dishes and Drinks
Biryani remained the undisputed favorite in India, with more than 9 crore orders—three plates every second! Pizza was a close second at 5.8 crore orders. Zomato quipped that if all pizzas ordered in 2024 were lined up, they would reach from Mumbai to New York City.

Tea and coffee were also beloved beverages, with 77.7 lakh and 74.3 lakh orders, respectively. Interestingly, Delhi devoured 25 times more Gol Gappe (pani puri) than Mumbai could manage with its Pani Puri orders.

Surprising Trends
September 22 had the most number of cake orders on a non-festive day, whereas May 12 had the busiest day of the year with 34.8 lakh orders. January 29 was the quietest day for food delivery with 16.8 lakh orders. One interesting delivery was made to an address marked "Ambani wedding," giving a mysterious hue to the stats.
