David Warner breaks bat, smashes onto his own head in bizarre scenes during BBL clash - Watch

Former captain of the Australian cricket team, David Warner, has found himself in a rather comical position during a recent Big Bash League (BBL) match. Batting for Sydney Thunder against the Hobart Hurricanes, Warner's bat splintered as he swung for a shot and struck himself on the back of the head. The crowd burst into laughter at the incident.

Warner went for a massive hit through mid-wicket to a delivery from fast bowler Riley Meredith. Unfortunately, his bat broke on contact, and a bit of it flew back and hit him on the head. The experienced Australian batsman could not believe the absurdity of this situation.

Warner had opened the batting with teenage prodigy Sam Konstas after the home side won the toss and opted to bat first. While Konstas went for only four runs, an innings of 88 from 66 balls from the Thunders' captain proved vital in getting to a competitive 164. His innings included seven boundaries.

And unfortunately for David Warner, they were in vain as the Hurricanes cantered to a six-wicket success with 19 balls unused. On the other hand, Tim David also impressed the home crowd, scoring 68 runs in 38 balls with a strike rate of 178.95 with the help of four fours and six sixes.

Warner, who retired from international cricket at the end of last year, and especially with the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction on his radar, went unsold there, but he is still the leading run-scorer in the 2024-25 season BBL with 316 runs in seven innings at an average of 63.20 and a strike rate of 142.34. His half-century against the Hurricanes was his third score of at least 50 this season.

Under Warner's leadership, the Thunders have fared admirably this season, currently sitting third on the table with four victories from eight matches, totaling nine points, with one match abandoned due to rain.
