Actor Rajpal Yadav revealed why Varun Dhawan's Baby John flopped and shared the actor's reaction after the film's failure. Varun Dhawan's last film Baby John was expected to end 2024 on a high note. Produced by Jawan director, Atlee, a remake of Thalapathy Vijay's Theri was the only hope of the actor. The film opened with a decent opening, making Varun's biggest opening. However, the mixed-to-negative reviews hampered the movie and it became one of the biggest flops.
In Kalees' directorial, Varun Dhawan plays DCP Satya Verma, and Rajpal plays Constable Ram Sevak. In a recent interview, Rajpal Yadav opened up about Baby John's failure and admitted that since the film is a remake of a popular film, it has hampered the movie. While speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said, "If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film."
When asked if Varun Dhawan was 'depressed' after the film's colossal failure, the actor said, "Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks."
Released in cinemas on December 25, Baby John was made on a budget of Rs 160 crores, and till now it has earned Rs 60 crores worldwide, causing a loss of around Rs 100 crores. Baby John also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Sheeba Chadha, and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles. It also marks the Bollywood debut of South actress Keerthy Suresh.
The Varun Dhawan film failed to compete against other big releases during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The moviegoers chose Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil-starrer Pushpa 2: The Rule, the Hollywood animated musical Mufasa: The Lion King, and Unni Mukundan's Malayalam violent actioner Marco over Baby John.
