The 2014 film, starring Mishti alongside Rishi Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty, had a notable scene that generated buzz. Kartik, who played a role in the movie, had once revealed in a pre-release interview that he and Mishti shared a passionate kissing scene, which required 37 retakes to perfect. The specific kissing scene proved to be a challenging experience for Kartik and he was about to ask Ghai to know how to kiss. Not only this, but he also claimed that co-star Mishti deliberately made mistakes in the kissing scene.

Recalling the 37 retakes, Kartik shared in an interview, "Maybe she deliberately kept making mistakes! Subhash ji wanted a passionate kiss. I didn’t know how to kiss. I was about to ask him, ‘Sir please show me how to do it!’. I never thought a kissing scene would be such a headache. We behaved like lovers that day. Towards the end, Subhash ji was happy that we finally got it,” he told Filmfare. 

For the uninitiated, the on-screen kiss in Kaanchi wasn't his first; he had already shared romantic moments with Nushrratt Bharuccha in his debut film Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Unfortunately, Kaanchi tanked at the box office, both critically and commercially. Following his debut, Kartik faced a string of box-office disappointments, including Aakash Vaani and Kaanchi. However, his fortunes changed with the release of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, the sequel to his debut film, which emerged as a major success and revitalized his career.
