Jackie Shroff BREAKS SILENCE on Baby John's box office failure: 'Dukh hota hai par...'

Jackie Shroff has reacted to the box office failure of his last film, Varun Dhawan-led, Baby John. The actioner is directed by Kalees, produced by Atlee, and it is a remake of Thalapthy Vijay's blockbuster Theri. The movie was released on Christmas weekend on December 25 and earned a decent Rs 11.25 crore opening. However, the movie crashed on the second day and never recovered the lost ground. 

For the unversed, Jackie plays the main villain in the movie. Speaking to India Today Digital, the veteran actor expressed his concern for the producers, and added, "The producers do get affected. They put in a lot of money with trust in these projects. And when they do not recover it, that is sad. As actors, of course, you want to be liked for your performance but you also want it to work well."

Sharing his thoughts about the failure affecting him, Jackie added, "Dukh hota hai par khud ke liye nahi, producers ke liye (You do feel bad but not for yourself, but the producers). You tend to do your job with sincerity, but the people who have put in the money, you have to think about them too."

Rajpal Yadav on Baby John's failure

Earlier, Rajpal Yadav, who co-starred in Baby John with Varun spoke about the film's failure in an interview. While speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal said, "If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film."

When asked if Varun Dhawan was 'depressed' after the film's colossal failure, the actor said, "Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks." Made in a reported budget of Rs 180 crores domestically, the movie is struggling to cross Rs 40 crores domestically.
