A woman expressed her disappointment after ordering a dish at One8 Commune, a restaurant co-owned by Virat Kohli.
A student from the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad expressed her disappointment after ordering a dish priced at Rs 525 (without taxes) at One8 Commune, a restaurant co-owned by Virat Kohli. Sneha took to social media to share a picture of what she received—a few slices of corn on the cob—raising concerns about the value for the price paid.
“Paid ₹525 for this today at One8 Commune,” Sneha posted on X, along with a photo of the dish. The image displayed a few slices of corn artfully arranged on a plate, accompanied by a dollop of dipping sauce and garnished with scallions.
Sneha had ordered a dish called Peri Peri Corn Ribs at the Hyderabad restaurant. The menu described the dish as being served with garlic aioli, parmesan cheese, and scallions.
The ISB student's disappointing post generated a mix of amusement and criticism on social media. Some users mocked her for being overcharged for what they deemed simply corn on a plate, while others argued that upscale restaurants often charge more for the overall dining experience rather than just the ingredients.
Her post has garnered over one million vies on X, formerly known as Twitter, and numerous comments and likes.
One user on X commented, “You knew this before ordering, so stop crying.”
Another user added, “Money is for ambience, service & cleanliness . That comfy chair, good looking rich people around, nice crockery,” They also pointed out that customers could get the same dish from a street vendor for a fraction of the price.
"You paid for the “community” One8 has created :) ~ Its overrated restaurantthe people hanging around, the music, the vibe … coming from the high rent, higher than average staff salary, etc etc etc," a third users said.
However, a section of users also criticised the restaurant saying it overrated. A user said, "Its overrated restaurant."
"I just didn’t like the place. Firstly, they have some issue with chappals (Birkenstocks). Second, every single dish we had was underwhelming. The price didn’t justify the product," said a seperate user.
A seperate user wrote, "That's the only place I visited where I was guilt-tripped by their staff into paying service tax. I don't have a problem with service tax. I pay it sometimes voluntarily. But that's the thing, it's supposed to be voluntary."
