Russia targets Santa Claus in viral Christmas video, declares ‘no foreigners in our...’

Russia has sparked controversy by releasing a propaganda video showing its defense systems targeting and destroying Santa Claus and his reindeer. The video, as reported by Daily Mail, was shared on pro-Russian Telegram channels and portrays a ‘Western’ Santa flying over Moscow while holding a Coca-Cola can and wishing Russians a Merry Christmas.

In the video, Santa's sleigh, carrying missiles resembling NATO's Trident or Minuteman III ICBMs, is struck by a Russian missile. The impact creates a festive firework display. The video then transitions to a scene where a missile operator sits beside Grandfather Frost, Russia’s traditional holiday figure. Grandfather Frost comments, “Right, we don’t need anything foreign in our skies. The release comes amid serious allegations against the Kremlin regarding the crash of an Azerbaijani Airlines passenger plane. The crash, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in 38 deaths. Azerbaijan has accused Russia of involvement, though the Kremlin has denied responsibility. Investigations are ongoing, with Azerbaijani investigators working in Grozny to determine the cause.

This incident has led to several disruptions in flight operations. Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended flights to multiple Russian cities, including Baku, Grozny, and Makhachkala, and expanded the suspension to eight more cities on Friday. Kazakhstan’s Qazaq Air also halted flights between Astana and Yekaterinburg for a month. Meanwhile, FlyDubai canceled flights to southern Russian destinations, including Sochi and Mineralnye Vody, for the next few days.

Adding to the uncertainty, Israel’s El Al airline suspended flights from Tel Aviv to Moscow, citing “developments in Russia’s airspace.” The airline has stated it will reassess the situation in the coming week.
