A heartwarming video has gone viral showing an Indian-origin man rescuing a 20-month-old dog stranded on a frozen lake in New Jersey. The rescue mission, which took place on Christmas Eve, has captured the attention of many viewers, thanks to the man’s selfless efforts to help a frightened animal in need.

The dog, named Brooklyn, ran from her dog sitter and ended up on the treacherous frozen surface of Lake Parsippany. Despite numerous attempts by local residents and authorities to coax her back to safety, Brooklyn remained stuck on the thin ice for nearly a full day. The situation seemed dire as Brooklyn refused to return to the shore, prompting a concerned response from the community.

Kishan Patel, a local resident and dog owner himself, was moved by the situation. Living near the lake, he immediately thought he could assist the authorities, particularly since he owned a drone. "Just because I can imagine what the owner must be going through," Patel told ABC7, expressing his empathy for the dog’s owner. Using his drone, Patel attempted to lure Brooklyn closer to the shore by dangling pieces of chicken in front of her. While the tactic worked momentarily, bringing Brooklyn 20-30 feet closer to safety, she stepped back once she saw the people waiting for her.

As nightfall approached, Patel’s drone became an invaluable tool in locating Brooklyn’s exact position on the lake’s frozen surface. The police, guided by the drone, were able to assess the ice’s thickness using weights before sending an officer onto the ice. The officer carefully approached Brooklyn, and when the dog became frightened, she quickly ran toward the shore, where she was eventually found taking refuge on a front porch.

After hearing that Brooklyn was safe and unharmed, Patel expressed relief, saying, “I’d be heartbroken.” He also noted that while drones are often used for various purposes, he was particularly happy that his drone was put to good use in helping save a life. The rescue effort ended with the dog being safely returned to her owner, and Patel shared his happiness, stating, “I feel even more happy that the dog is safe and back home.”
