The incident began when the scammer requested the man to show his face during a video call. In an effort to sound authoritative, the fraudster claimed to represent the Andheri East police station.
In a hillarios twist to the typical digital scam story, a man ingeniously turned the tactics of a scammer back on him, resulting in a moment that has amused the internet. The scammer, posing as a Mumbai police officer, encountered an unexpected turn of events that derailed his scheme.
The incident began when the scammer requested the man to show his face during a video call. In an effort to sound authoritative, the fraudster claimed to represent the Andheri East police station.
Instead of cooperating, the man responded with humour by lifting his puppy into the camera frame and saying, “Here I am, Sir!” This unexpected move caught the scammer off guard, leaving him confused as he fumbled with his camera while the man continued to mock him. “Can you see me, Officer? Oh, look, a fake uniform,” he joked, laughing at the increasingly awkward responses from the fraudster.
Unable to uphold his deception, the scammer ultimately hung up, much to the amusement of viewers who found the exchange entertaining.
“Pretend to be Mumbai Police. Scam call gone wrong,” read the caption of the post.
The video has become a viral sensation online, with numerous viewers praising the man's quick wit and humorous method of exposing the scam.
Digital arrest is a type of scam in which fraudsters instill a false sense of fear and panic by impersonating law enforcement officials, pressuring victims into making payments under the threat of a fabricated online investigation or arrest.
Recently, a Japanese man residing in Bengaluru fell victim to a scam, losing Rs 35.5 lakh to cybercriminals impersonating Mumbai police officers. The scammers falsely accused him of involvement in a money laundering case and "digitally arrested" him, compelling him to make payments through multiple channels.
Earlier, a techie from Bengaluru was scammed out of Rs 11.8 crore in a "digital arrest" scheme. Fraudsters posing as police officers informed him that his Aadhaar details were being misused for money laundering.
