Travel influencer Sharanya Iyer has revealed that she spent over Rs 50 lakh last year. The majority of it was spent traveling to different countries throughout the world.
Travel content creator Sharanya Iyer has disclosed that she spent over Rs 50 lakh last year, describing it as a major switch from her previous mindset of being excessively focused on saving money.
Sharanya, who boasts over 5,00,000 followers on Instagram, allocated most of her funds to traveling around the globe. In her Instagram video, she mentioned visiting more than six countries in 2024. The cost of flights for the content creator amounted to Rs 5 lakh, while the majority of the remaining expenses were spent on accommodation, activities, and other related costs.
In addition to her travel expenses, Sharanya spent Rs 22 lakh on a new Hyundai car and Rs 5 lakh on medical costs.
“I used to be such an obsessive saver and spent sparingly on the ‘big’ things. 2024 changed that with help and advice and healthy pushes from my dad and friends,” the travel vlogger shared on Instagram. She noted that learning to spend rather than just save has brought her joy and a sense of security.
She futher added, "Not everyone needs to agree, but this has been my significant move last year, and it brought me so much joy and a sense of safety in an otherwise difficult year.”
In her Instagram video, Sharanya detailed her travel expenses, revealing that she spent Rs 1 lakh on trips to Laos and Thailand, Rs 1.5 lakh in Madeira, Rs 8 lakh on a journey to South Africa with her parents, and Rs 3 lakh in Greenland. Additionally, her visits to Iceland three times totaled Rs 2.5 lakh.
Additionally, she spent the summer in Europe for just Rs 60,000, thanks to winning Rs 40,000 at a casino.
The total cost of flights to various destinations around the world amounted to Rs 5 lakh. Furthermore, Sharanya invested Rs 22 lakh in a new car and incurred Rs 5 lakh in medical expenses that were not covered by insurance.
Her calculations did not account for expenditures on food, daily expenses, and shopping.
“I’m of course not including spends on food and beverages, daily expenses, and material accumulations (big plans to cut that down this year too!),” she mentioned, expressing her anticipation for “more of this in 2025.”
Her video has gained significant attention, gaining over 1.3 million views and a flurry of surprised comments. Many viewers inquired what is her source of income.
“Meanwhile, finance influencers are experiencing trauma after this reel,” one user joked.
Another individual questioned how Sharanya managed to visit Iceland three times for just Rs 3.5 lakh. Sharanya clarified that part of the trip was sponsored and that she did not include the cost of flights in her calculations.
“Not saving and spending all income on traveling at a young age is a very crazy idea! I really don’t think it’s advisable,” remarked one viewer.
