Biryani has once again proven its dominance as India’s most popular dish, maintaining its reign for the ninth consecutive year. According to a report from food delivery platform Swiggy, a staggering 83 million biryani orders were placed in 2024, which averages out to 158 orders every minute. This figure highlights the country's unwavering love for the flavorful rice dish.

In second place, Dosa remains a strong contender, with 23 million orders, solidifying its status as another beloved food item. Swiggy’s report also revealed some interesting food trends across India. For instance, a single customer in Bengaluru made headlines by spending Rs 49,900 on pasta in 2024. This indulgence included nearly 55 servings of Alfredo pasta, 40 plates of Mac & Cheese, and 30 portions of Spaghetti.

Dinner has emerged as the most popular mealtime, with 215 million dinner orders in 2024, nearly 29% higher than lunch orders. This growing preference for dinner showcases a shift in dining habits across the country.

Bengaluru continues to show strong loyalty to its culinary heritage, consuming 2.5 million Masala Dosas. Other cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Kolkata maintained their attachment to iconic regional dishes, with Chole, Aloo Parantha, and Kachoris being their top choices.

Snacks like Chicken Roll have also gained significant traction, emerging as the most-ordered snack with 2.48 million orders. Chicken Momos followed closely with 1.63 million orders, and even Potato Fries found their place in the list with 1.3 million orders.

Additionally, Chicken Burgers became the go-to choice for midnight cravings, with 1.84 million orders placed between 12 AM and 2 AM. Biryani also continued to be a popular 24/7 option, further cementing its place as a national favorite.
