Republic Day 2025: Google Doodle celebrates India’s diversity with Indian wildlife-themed illustration

Google is celebrating India's 76th Republic Day with a colourful Doodle that pays tribute to the nation's pride, unity, and diverse cultural heritage. On January 26, 1950, India adopted its Constitution, officially becoming a republic and embarking on its democratic journey. This year, the country lebrates 76 years of being a republic, marking this significant occasion.

The Doodle, designed by Pune-based guest artist Rohan Dahotre, effectively encapsulates the spirit of Republic Day through a representation of the parade. The artwork features a variety of animals, each symbolising different regions of India. These animals highlight the country's rich diversity in landscapes, cultures, and wildlife, celebrating India's abundant natural and cultural heritage.

Republic Day 2025: Wildlife-themed Google Doodle

Rohan Dahotre's Google Doodle features a snow leopard dressed in traditional attire from the Ladakh region. Alongside it, a tiger is depicted standing on two feet while holding a musical instrument. The illustration also includes India's national bird, a peacock in flight, and an antelope dressed in traditional clothing, carrying a ceremonial staff.

Speaking about his illustration Rohan said, "My illustration also draws inspiration from the diverse wildlife of my nation. India boasts incredible biodiversity, from the cold, snowy regions of the Himalayas in the north to the lush rainforests of the Western Ghats in the south, where new species are still being discovered at this moment. The country's varied habitats include deserts, wetlands, grasslands, lakes, and seas, each home to unique flora and fauna. My aim was not only to highlight India's regions, cultures, and geographical richness."

Meanwhile, the Republic Day Parade, held each year on Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath) in New Delhi, is one of India's most eagerly awaited events. Thousands of spectators flock to witness this grand celebration, which spans several kilometers and features a march by the Indian armed forces, colourful floats, cultural performances, and impressive military displays. The parade serves as a visual showcase of the nation's accomplishments across various sectors, including defense, culture, education, and technology.

Alongside the military contingents, the parade includes vibrant floats representing various states of India, each narrating the region's history, traditions, and achievements. Additionally, school children participate by performing dances and songs that highlight the country's rich cultural diversity.
