The news spread after the University of Michigan's booster group, Champions Circle, revealed the couple's involvement in securing a multimillion-dollar deal for the school's football team. On November 23, the group posted online thanking “Larry and his wife Jolin” for their guidance and financial support, mentioning that Jolin is an alumna of the university.

Despite being seen together at various sports events since 2018, Ellison had never publicly confirmed his marriage to Zhu. The revelation surprised many, as she had remained a mysterious figure until now. Zhu, who is 33 years old, is 47 years younger than Ellison, and her full name is Zhu Keren. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Michigan in 2012.
