Elon Musk's estranged daughter Vivian Wilson criticized him over a controversial gesture compared to a Nazi salute, sparking online debates.
Elon Musk's estranged transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, has seemingly criticized her father after a video surfaced showing him allegedly making a controversial gesture during former President Donald Trump’s inauguration rally. The video captured Musk making a one-armed gesture, which many compared to a Nazi salute. While the billionaire dismissed the allegations, the incident has drawn significant attention.
Vivian, who legally changed her name and gender at 18 and distanced herself from Musk, shared a pointed message on Instagram’s Threads platform. Without directly naming her father, she hinted at addressing the controversy. “I’m just gonna say let’s call a spade a f***ing spade,” she wrote, adding, “Especially if there were two spades done in succession based on the reaction of the first spade.”
As her comments gained traction online, she followed up with a sarcastic post, claiming her initial statement was about card suits. “I don’t know why y’all are reacting with such vigor. I’m clearly only talking about card suits,” she joked. She added, “People assuming that I’m not just talking about card suits shows how dishonest people/the media can be.”
The video of Musk’s gesture sparked widespread reactions on social media. Musk dismissed the criticism on his platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.” The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), known for combating anti-Semitism, defended Musk, stating the gesture appeared to be an awkward moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute.
Musk and Vivian’s relationship has long been strained. Musk has blamed "woke mind viruses" for their fallout. Referring to gender reassignment, he previously said, “I lost my son, essentially.” Vivian legally transitioned in June 2022 and stated, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
