'I'm just open to...': World's richest man Elon Musk answers about his belief in God

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, shared his thoughts on the idea of God and the origins of the universe in a recent interview with German leader Alice Wiedel on January 10. Musk expressed an open mind toward the "idea of God" while maintaining a perspective grounded in physics and logic.

When asked if he believes in God, Musk said, "I'm open to believing in things proportionate to the information that I receive." He explained that his understanding of reality is rooted in a "physics view," which shapes his approach to existential questions. Despite his scientific outlook, Musk admitted, "I'm just open to the idea of God."

Reflecting on the origins of the universe, Musk suggested that a creative entity could align with the concept of God. "If you say, where did the universe come from? How is it created? I suppose there would be some entity that you could call God. I don't know," he said, acknowledging the mystery behind the cosmos' existence.

However, Musk questioned the notion of a God who observes and judges human behavior on a moral basis. He expressed skepticism, pointing out the prevalence of evil in the world. "If there's someone observing us on a moral basis continually, then it does seem odd that some very evil things are allowed to occur," he noted.

Despite his uncertainties, Musk remains open to evolving his views. "Maybe that is the case. I don't know what I learned. And as I learn more, I aspire to change my views to match what I learned," he said.

In a separate interview last year with psychologist Jordan Peterson, Musk described himself as a "cultural Christian." Although not particularly religious, he expressed admiration for Christian teachings, especially the principle of "turning the other cheek." He stated, "Christian beliefs result in the greatest happiness for humanity, considering not just the present, but all future humans." Musk added, "I'm actually a big believer in the principles of Christianity. I think they're very good."

Through his words, Musk demonstrates a curious and evolving outlook on spirituality, blending scientific reasoning with a respect for moral teachings.
