Himachal Pradesh's snow-covered serenity awes social amid Manali's traffic woes, watch viral videos

A new wave of snowfall on Monday caused significant traffic disruptions for travelers heading to Manali in Himachal Pradesh, with nearly 1,000 cars stranded between Solang and the Atal Tunnel. Despite the traffic chaos, the snowfall has transformed much of the state into picturesque winter landscapes. Videos showcasing the snowy beauty have gone viral on social media, captivating viewers.

An individual captioned a short video with the phrase, “Snow-capped mountains look beautiful” and shared it online. Accompanied by the soothing sound of birdsong, the clip vividly showcases the stunning snow-covered mountains.

Sharing a video on X, formerly Twitter, a user said, “Yet again snowfall melting my heart,” alongside a video of snowfall. The clip begins with an empty hill road, gradually being blanketed by continuous snowfall.

Himachal Pradesh’s capital, Shimla, known as the "Queen of Hills," experienced its second snowfall of the season on Monday. The Shimla office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted light snowfall for the region. Snowfall was also reported in nearby areas, including Kufri and Narkanda.

During an interview with Hindustan Times IMD scientist Shobhit Katiyar said,“The last time Shimla experienced snowfall in December was in 2020. Over the past 12 years, Shimla has never received snowfall on Christmas Day (December 25). However, it received snowfall a day before and a day after Christmas in 2015 (24 December) and 2016 (December 26) respectively. Furthermore, there was no snowfall in December during the years 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023,”

The Shimla office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that isolated areas are expected to receive snowfall on December 24, 27, and 29. However, the weather conditions are forecasted to remain dry on December 25 and 26.
