Meenal Goel said her maid made a final remark before leaving, saying, "Call only when you are ready to pay me Rs 3,000."
A chartered accountant from Delhi is facing criticism for a LinkedIn post discussing three "corporate lessons" she claims to have learned from her maid's resignation, which occurred after she denied a salary increase. Meenal Goel said her maid left her job after she refused to raise her salary to Rs 3,000 per month.
Goel shared her maid's resignation and the three lessons she learned from it in a LinkedIn post yesterday. In her post, she said, "My maid resigned yesterday. Why? Because we didn't want to give her a Rs 1,000 raise."
According to Goel, her maid made a final remark before leaving, saying, "Call only when you are ready to pay me Rs 3,000."
In her LinkedIn post, Goel elaborated on the three corporate lessons she learned from her maid's resignation: (1) Don't be afraid to ask for a raise, (2) Never discredit your efforts, and (3) Don't settle for less.
Goel's post sparked significant debate on LinkedIn. Some users criticised her for not paying domestic workers a salary of Rs 3,000 in a metropolitan area like Delhi, while others commended her for deriving a lesson from a negative experience.
Taking to the comment section, one user said, “Only on LinkedIn dot com will you find such entitled people giving corporate lessons after exploiting their househelp to the extent of making them resign.”
“Meenal, your insights are truly inspiring. It's a powerful reminder that we must advocate for ourselves and never underestimate our worth in the corporate world. Thank you for sharing,” another person countered.
The post emerges amid growing outrage among white-collar workers regarding remarks from prominent business leaders who are promoting longer working hours. Many individuals highlighted that those in the unorganized sector lack the privilege of fixed working hours and often face exploitation by their employers.
