Former cricketer Robin Uthappa faces an arrest warrant over alleged...
Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has landed in legal trouble after allegations of Provident Fund (PF) fraud amounting to Rs 23 lakh surfaced. The Regional Provident Fund (PF) Commissioner, Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, has issued an arrest warrant against Uthappa, directing the Pulakeshinagar police to take necessary action in the matter.
The accusations stem from Uthappa’s role in managing Centuries Lifestyle Brand Private Limited. It has been alleged that while PF contributions were deducted from the salaries of employees, these funds were not deposited into their respective accounts. This failure constitutes a serious violation of the law, as employers are responsible for ensuring PF deductions are properly credited.
Efforts to locate Uthappa are currently underway. On December 4, Commissioner Reddy reportedly instructed the police to execute the warrant. However, the warrant was returned to the PF office because it is believed that Uthappa has changed his residence. Investigations are ongoing, and as of now, his exact whereabouts remain unknown.
If found guilty, Uthappa could face charges under Section 405 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with “criminal breach of trust.” This section penalizes employers who misuse funds meant for PF or family pension contributions, a responsibility that is considered critical under Indian labor laws.
