After decades in US, 53-year-old man wonders if It's time to return to Mumbai
SPORTS
The 37-year-old is looking for new ways to distinguish himself as he aims to become the oldest player in the Open era to win a Grand Slam title.
Novak Djokovic once again exhibited his tremendous skill and tenacity at the Australian Open, defeating Portugal's Jaime Faria in four sets to go to the third round. This victory was Djokovic's 430th grand slam singles match, highlighting his amazing career, which began in 2005 and continues to thrive at the age of 37.
With a record of 379-511, Djokovic has now surpassed Federer in grand slam match wins, cementing his status as one of the best tennis players in history. His longevity and continuous performance have enabled him to achieve astounding benchmarks previously held by the Swiss legend.
If Djokovic advances to the quarterfinals of this year's Australian Open, he will join Federer as the only men to have won 100 matches at the tournament. Djokovic has had a particularly good run in Melbourne, where he earned his first major title in 2008 and has since won the tournament ten times, with a perfect record in finals.

However, Djokovic's journey to the semifinals will not be easy, as he may meet the excellent Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. Despite a calmer year in 2024, when he dropped to world number 7, Djokovic remains a formidable adversary for the young Spaniard, who is keen to win his maiden Australian Open championship and become the youngest player to complete a career grand slam.
This anticipated quarterfinal encounter would be a repetition of Djokovic's thrilling gold medal victory over his tenacious opponent at the Paris Olympics in 2024. The emotional impact of that encounter was considerable, expressing both athletes' profound pride in representing their countries on a global scale.
After the match, Djokovic expressed his gratitude for breaking yet another all-time record and emphasized the importance of Grand Slam tournaments in the world of tennis.
"I love the sport. I love the competition. I try to give my best, every single time. It’s been over 20 years that I have been competing in Grand Slams, at the highest level. Whether win or lose, one thing is for sure, I always leave my heart out," Djokovic said.
"Grand Slams, of course, they are the pillars of our sport. They mean everything for the history of this sport. They are the ones that motivate young children. The first image of tennis that I remember watching was the Wimbledon final. So, yeah, Grand Slams are definitely the most important tournaments in our sport. It’s been over 130 years of existence of this incredible event. I am just blessed to be making another record today," he added.
