Harmanpreet Singh is a reliable leader who never fails to deliver, no matter the challenge or stage. He consistently leads his team to victory.
Two penalty shootout attempts can vividly illustrate the remarkable transformation of Harmanpreet Singh from a player on the brink of walking away to one of the world's premier defenders. This journey culminated in him being honored with India's highest sporting accolade, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
During the 2023 World Cup in Rourkela, Harmanpreet struggled to outmaneuver New Zealand's goalkeeper, Leon Hayward, in a crucial shootout. His failed attempt resulted in India's defeat with the captain bearing the brunt of criticism for his drag-flick shortcomings. However, at the 2024 Paris Olympics Harmanpreet was challenged by the Great Britain goalkeeper Ollie Payne, to outmaneuver him in a shootout. Harmanpreet successfully executed a 180-degree turn scoring a goal and sending a clear message to Payne. The India captain's skillful play demonstrated his strategic thinking and ability to outsmart his opponent on the field.

His ability to consistently deliver in crucial moments is truly exceptional, leading many to believe that scoring comes naturally to him.
The Indian hockey team's historic achievement of securing a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics marked a significant milestone as it was the team's second consecutive Olympic bronze since Munich 1972.
As the Indian hockey team competes amidst a sea of emotions in the stadium, the chants of "India, India" reverberate through the air, symbolizing the collective spirit of the nation. Amidst this electrifying atmosphere, one name stands out with undeniable potential—Harmanpreet Singh.
Who is Harmanpreet Singh?
Harmanpreet Singh, born on January 6, 1996 into a farming family in Jandiala Guru township, a village in Amritsar, Punjab has a unique story of how his humble beginnings shaped his journey to becoming a renowned drag flicker in the world of hockey.
Growing up, Harmanpreet assisted his family with farming in the fields, cultivating a strong sense of endurance from a young age. An unexpected yet crucial element in his development as a powerful drag flicker was his time spent operating a tractor.
With his father's permission, Harmanpreet would often maneuver the heavy vehicle, initially struggling with the rusty gear stick. However, this challenge inadvertently contributed to the strengthening of his arms, laying a solid foundation for his future success in executing powerful drag flicks on the hockey field.
Olympic medals and Asian Games glory
Harmanpreet Singh played a crucial role in India's historic bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The Indian men's hockey team had been chasing an Olympic medal for 41 years, and Harmanpreet Singh's performances were truly inspiring. He made a strong impact right from the beginning of the tournament.
In the opening game against New Zealand, Harmanpreet scored two goals through penalty corners, leading India to victory. This set the tone for India's impressive run at Tokyo 2020.
Throughout the group stage games and into the knockout stage, Harmanpreet continued to shine. He scored in the semi-final against Belgium, although it wasn't enough to secure a spot in the final.
In the bronze medal play-off against Germany, Harmanpreet scored a crucial goal to equalize the game. With goals from Rupinder Pal Singh and Simranjeet Singh, India secured their 12th medal at the Summer Games.
Finishing as the top scorer for the Indian hockey team with six goals, Harmanpreet's talent was undeniable.
Named captain for the FIH Pro League 2022-23 season, Harmanpreet led India to a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games, securing their spot in Paris 2024.
