Currently, Team India is trailing 2-1 in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, making it impossible for them to win the series. However, they still have an opportunity to retain the series by winning the final match, which is set to take place in Sydney starting January 3.
India's head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed his dissatisfaction with the team's performance following their failure to save the Test match in Melbourne, which they lost by 184 runs. Gambhir reportedly conveyed his frustration to the players by stating "bahut ho gaya" (I've had enough), as reported by The Indian Express.
Currently, Team India is trailing 2-1 in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy, making it impossible for them to win the series. However, they still have an opportunity to retain the series by winning the final match, which is set to take place in Sydney starting January 3.
The atmosphere in the Indian dressing room was reportedly described as "far from ideal," with rising tensions as the team prepared for the first match in Perth.
While not naming specific players, Gambhir criticised the approach of some team members who prioritized their own style of play under the guise of "natural game," instead of adapting to the match situation. He also mentioned that after allowing the players to operate freely for the "last six months," he would now take charge of deciding the team's future playing strategy.
Rohit Sharma is facing difficulties both as a batsman and as captain of the Indian cricket team. In 2024, he has an average of less than 25 in Test cricket, and reports suggest that he may be playing his final Test match in Sydney.
His batting struggles and his absence from the squad for the first Test have highlighted the ambitions of other players in the team who are eyeing leadership roles.
According to a report from The Indian Express, one senior player in the Indian team considers himself "Mr. Fix-it." This player believes that the younger members of the team are not yet prepared for leadership positions and is positioning himself as a potential interim captain.
