Weather Update: Delhi, nearby regions brace for chilly New Year 2025, check IMD forecast here

As Delhi and its surrounding regions experience cold waves they will have to struggle with dense to very dense fog and cold to severe cold wave conditions in the coming days in the new year. 

According to the Meteorological department, there is a prediction of these conditions remaining in place until January 1. These conditions will impact visibility and lower daytime temperatures. The MeT has gave a warning regarding this cold spell and said that it will continue in the coming days and Northwest India would face problems.  

The weather department has predicted cold wave conditions for Haryana and Chandigarh on December 31. However, the cold wave, it said, would probably spread to some areas of West Uttar Pradesh and northern Madhya Pradesh until January 1. 

These areas of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab will experience dense to very dense fog late on Monday and until January 1. Apart from these, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states will also witness foggy conditions until December 31.  

Other areas that will experience dense foggy conditions until January 1 are Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. However, Himachal Pradesh will continue to experience such conditions till January 2.  

Delhi recorded very low temperatures on Monday morning. The Safdarjung area recorded a maximum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees below normal, while Palam noted 13 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees below the seasonal average. 

In such a condition as well, Delhi’s air quality showed improvement and came in the "moderate" category with an AQI at 183, said the weather department.
