'Nitish Kumar ke pet mein daant hain...': Throwback to when Lalu Yadav took a dig at Bihar CM, WATCH clip

Back when late veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav made a statement about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that went immensely popular.

Through his remarks, he had taken a dig at CM Kumar. 

Addressing the Lok Sabha, the RJD Chief had stated, "Honourable Chairman! In 1977, we couldn't really comprehend Delhi. We, Raj Narayan Sahab, George Fernandes Chaudhary Charan Singh, Mulyam Singh or Nitish Kumar, who switched sides, were a family."

Lalu Prasad Yadav continued, "Mere munh mein 32 daant hain. Nitish Kumar ke pet mein daant hain. (I have 32 teeth in my mouth. Nitish Kumar, on the other hand, has teeth in his stomach). 

The RJD supremo further stressed that having teeth in stomach is "dangerous", sparking a wave of laughter among the parliamentarians including the then-Prime Minister. 

Alliance change in Bihar?

Speculations of a possible alliance change in Bihar have been doing rounds in the political landscape of Bihar. 

Earlier, Lalu Prasad Yadav said that his doors are open for Kumar. "Our doors are open for Nitish Kumar. He should also unbolt his gates. This would facilitate movement of people from both sides", said the RJD Chief suring an interview.

Later, speaking to the reporters, Nitish Kumar folded hands and said, "Kya bol rahe hain"? (What are you saying?) 

Notably, Yadav's overture to Kumar follows a history of turbulent alliances, owing to the latter changing sides frequently. In the last decade, Nitish Kumar aligned with the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan twice, before joining hands with the present BJP-led NDA government.
