Manmohan Singh passes away: Know educational qualifications of former PM

Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been admitted to AIIMS Delhi in critical condition after his health worsened. AIIMS confirmed that Dr. Singh passed away at 9:51 PM. Dr. Singh, who had retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year after serving for 33 years, breathed his last at the hospital on Thursday evening. Leaders from across the political spectrum, including Priyanka Gandhi, visited AIIMS to pay their respects.

Dr. Singh was deeply respected for his role in transforming India's economy and was known for the significant economic reforms during his tenure. Robert Vadra expressed his condolences, acknowledging Dr. Singh's immense contributions to the nation.

Born on September 26, 1932, in a village in Western Punjab, Dr. Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He was the first Sikh to hold the office and is remembered for his leadership during a period of major economic changes.

Dr. Singh began his education at Punjab University, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics. He later studied at Cambridge University, where he graduated with a First Class Honors degree in Economics. In 1962, he received a DPhil from Oxford University’s Nuffield College.

Throughout his career, Dr. Singh held various important positions, including Chief Economic Advisor and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. In 1991, he became India’s Finance Minister, and in 2004, he took on the role of Prime Minister, serving two terms.

Dr. Singh’s legacy as a visionary leader will always be remembered for his economic reforms and progressive vision for the country.
