Former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader Dr Manmohan Singh passed away yesterday, i.e., December 26, at AIIMS in Delhi. He was battling with several age-related illnesses.
As the country is mourning his demise, numerous of stories about the former Prime Minister have come to light, reflecting his passion and dedication for his duties towards the country.
One such moment was witnessed when Dr Singh arrived in a wheelchair in the Rajya Sabha to participate in a session where "The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023" was being discussed.
Dr Singh, then 91, arrived in a wheelchair to cast his vote against the the bill, which was later signed into law.
Furthermore, the former Prime Minister also arrived in the parliament in a wheelchair during the Winter Session of the Parliament in December last year. Notably, this was the time when his 33-year-long parliamentary innings in the Rajya Sabha came to a demise.
Dr Manmohan Singh, who demonstrated passion and dedication by arriving in the parliament despite his health condition, received words of praise from his successor and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"I remember during the voting in the House, it was known that the treasury bench would win but Dr Manmohan Singh came in his wheelchair and cast his vote. This is an example of a member being alert of his duties. He was an inspirational example," PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that he had believed that Dr Singh was strengthening the democracy.
"Ideological differences are short lived, but the way Manmohan Singh has guided this House and the country for such a long period, he will be remembered for his contributions during every discussion on our democracy. I pray that he lives long and keeps guiding us," said PM Modi.
