Mumbai city recorded over 300 mm of rainfall at various places in six hours from 1 am to 7 am today, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Some trains were also cancelled following heavy rains, according to the Central Railways.
"The Mumbai University has postponed all exams of the Centre of Distance and Open Learning (formerly IDOL) scheduled on Monday, July 8, 2024 of the first half, i.e., from 11 am to 2 pm. The new date for these exams is July 13, 2024. Time & venue will remain the same," a statement from the Varsity said.
Heavy rains in some low-lying areas led to waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services, said the civic body. The Civic body also said that the entire machinery of the BMC is working in the field. It has also requested Mumbaikars not to believe in rumours. Water-logging was reported from Worli, Buntara Bhavan, in Kurla East, King's Circle area of Mumbai, Dadar and Vidyavihar Railway Station. (ANI)

As heavy rains lashed Mumbai on Monday morning, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde chaired a high-level meeting to review the situation in the state. He also directed all emergency agencies to be on high alert.
In a message on social media platform X, CM Shinde said that life has been disrupted in Mumbai due to heavy rains, saying, "There is a traffic jam on the roads and the traffic on the railway line has also been affected. The work of removing water from the track is going on by the railway administration and efforts are on to restore the traffic soon.""I have directed all emergency agencies to be on high alert. Citizens should go out only if necessary. I am also appealing to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Police Administration and Emergency Services to cooperate," CM Shinde added in his post.
The Chief Minister's Office said in a statement, "Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde is chairing a high-level meeting at the Disaster Control Room to review the flood situation in the state and Mumbai due to heavy rains. Mumbai Guardian Minister MP Lodha, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Anil Patil and others are present."Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for July 9, Tuesday. The city is expected to receive very heavy rain in the next 24 hours.Mumbai recorded heavy rainfall on Monday morning, leading to traffic jams and waterlogging.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that Colaba recorded 83. 8 mm of rainfall and Santacruz recorded 267.9 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Mumbai city received a total of 2547 mm of rainfall, which is 27 per cent of the average annual rain during the same period.

He said, "Since last night, Mumbai has received 300mm rain, around 200 water pumps of the Railways and more than 400 BMC water pumps are in service to drain out water. Trains on the Central and Harbour lines have resumed. Disaster management authorities, Army, Navy, and Air Force are on alert," reported ANI.
Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were affected due to heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Monday morning. Mumbai recorded heavy rainfall on Monday morning, leading to traffic jams and waterlogging.
In a statement, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, said, "Today heavy rains and low visibility led to the suspension of runway operations from 2:22 am to 3:40 am. 27 flight diversions were reported. Flights diverted to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Indore, etc. Currently, priority is being given to arrivals, delaying departures, and consequential changes that were made to accommodate diverted flights."
