According to tradition, pilgrims flock to the Sangam--the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati (now extinct) rivers--to take the holy dip believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation).
Over 110 million devotees have taken a dip in the waters of Prayagraj during the first 14 days of the religious congregation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to make a one-day visit to Prayagraj today to take part in the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, as per a release from the Mahakumbh Media Centre.
According to the release, Shah is scheduled to arrive in Prayagraj at 11:25 AM on Monday, following which he will take a holy bath at the Triveni Sangam. He will then visit the Bade Hanuman Ji Temple and Abhayvat.
Later, the minister will proceed to Juna Akhara, where he will meet the Maharaj and other saints of the Akhara and have lunch with them.
His schedule also includes visits to Guru Sharananand Ji's Ashram, where he will meet Guru Sharananand Ji and Govind Giri Ji Maharaj, and conclude his visit with a meeting with the Shankaracharyas of Sringeri, Puri, and Dwaraka.
The Maha Kumbh is held every 12 years and a huge turnout of devotees is expected in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26.
According to tradition, pilgrims flock to the Sangam--the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati (now extinct) rivers--to take the holy dip believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation).
Rooted in Sanatan Dharma, the event signifies a celestial alignment that creates an auspicious period for spiritual cleansing and devotion. The Mahakumbh Mela is expected to host over 45 crore visitors, marking a historic occasion for India.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Prayagraj AC Volvo Bus service has been launched to ease the pilgrimage to Prayagraj Mahakumbh for devotees from Gujarat.
The Chief Minister flagged off the first bus from Gandhinagar Circuit House, commencing the 'Chalo, Kumbh Chale' Yatra, according to a CMO release.
As per Indian culture and tradition, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with Transport Minister Harsh Sanghvi, honoured the devotees on the inaugural bus and wished them a pleasant journey.

Shah was received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his cabinet members at the Prayagraj airport.
Amit Shah's schedule also includes visits to Guru Sharananand Ji's Ashram, where he will meet Guru Sharananand Ji and Govind Giri Ji Maharaj, and conclude his visit with a meeting with the Shankaracharyas of Sringeri, Puri, and Dwaraka.The Home Minister will depart from Prayagraj for Delhi in the evening.
Indian cine actor Suniel Shetty on Monday appealed to Hindus to attend the Dharma Sansad, organised by spiritual leader and Bhagwat Katha orator Devkinandan Thakurji Maharaj, in the ongoing Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj.In a self-made video, Shetty stated that the main aim of the Sansad is to push for a Sanatana board responsible for the protection of Hindu temples, 'gurukuls,' and 'gaushalas'.
"A historic moment awaits at Prayagraj Mahakumbh; crores will unite in devotion to the Sanatana Dharma on January 27 under the guidance of... a movement to establish the Sanatan Board," the actor said."
This is to protect our temples, gurukuls and gaushalas, so let's come together in devotion and commitment; join us at 'Shanti Seva Shivir Prayagraj,'" he added.

A Dharma Sansad, organised by spiritual leader and Bhagwat Katha orator Devkinandan Thakurji Maharaj, will be convened on Monday at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. One of the key objectives of the Sansad is the establishment of a Sanatana Board.
"We all want that Sanatana Board be constituted. We are placing a proposal before the Government. All Dharmacharyas want the welfare of Sanatana and temples to remain secure - for this Dharma Sansad is about to begin. I am going to see the preparation for the same. People are arriving here in large numbers," Devkinandan Thakurji Maharaj told ANI.
The event will be attended by many saints, Gurus, and Sanatan leaders.

The Mahakumbh 2025 has proven to be a life-changing experience for many youths who attended the grand festival. As they immersed themselves in the spiritual atmosphere, they felt an overwhelming sense of joy, peace, and enlightenment.
With each passing day, the Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj is drawing devotees of all ages from across various parts of India. The cold winter and minor struggles are no longer a challenge, especially after a dip in the Sangam. Devotees say it brings them peace and heals all their hardships.

Binika Thakur from Chandigarh, who arrived in Prayagraj early on Monday with her family, was initially hesitant to take a dip due to the cold weather. However, after gathering the courage, she took the dip and came out feeling much better.
7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, a prominent Tibetan Buddhist leader, arrived at the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj on Monday, where he is attending the free yoga therapy and meditation camp hosted by Yog Guru Baba Ramdev.
In his address at the camp, the 7th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche expressed his gratitude for being part of this monumental occasion.
He shared, "Thank you for having me in this historic event. This is such an important place. This is the place where whole humanity gets together and we all share the oneness of humanity. So, I feel very proud and I thank everyone for participating. I wish and pray that the world will be peaceful and all living beings live together happily and may there be a bright future in the coming years ahead."
Born near Dharamsala in 1985, Ling Rinpoche was recognised by the 14th Dalai Lama in 1987 as the reincarnation of the 6th Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche, who served as the Senior Tutor to the Dalai Lama. This recognition positioned Ling Rinpoche as a respected spiritual leader.
A 'high-technology' kitchen has been set up by the Manav Dharm Shivir, to feed over 1 lakh devotees at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Manav Dharm Shivir said there are 500 people to cook the food and over 2-3 thousand others to serve it to the devotees.
They are also going to organize a program today (January 27) which will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
"At least 1 lakh people have meal here daily...We have a lot of machines and people working for this...More than 500 people cook food here while there are over 2-3 thousand people for serving food and other service...We have 2000 toilets, tents for people with water supplies and other facilities in the Shivir," a member of the Shivir told ANI.
As one of the largest religious gatherings unfolds in Prayagraj, devotees are flocking to the Triveni Sangam to participate in the Mahakumbh.
