SSMB29: SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu film launched with pooja ceremony, fans say 'baap of all Indian films begins'

The two powerhouses of Indian cinema SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu have joined hands together for their upcoming film. The film was officially launched on January 2 in Hyderabad with a pooja ceremony. It is tentatively titled SSMB29 as its Mahesh Babu's 28th film as the leading hero. The title of the movie hasn't been officially announced yet.

As per reports, Priyanka Chopra has been cast as the leading lady in the film and Prithviraj Sukumaran will also play a pivotal role. Touted as a global jungle adventure, SSMB29 will be the costliest film in the history of Indian cinema with a reported budget of Rs 1000 crore. It is being planned as a two-part saga with the first part releasing in 2025 and the next part in 2027.

A source close to the development told Pinkvilla, "SS Rajamouli is planning to merge the jungle adventure genre with a bit of thrill and espionage. The writing is almost done and the idea is to start shoot in April 2025. The makers have planned this untitled jungle adventure as a two-part, and the on-paper plans are to bring it to the big screen in 2027 and 2029 respectively."

The videos from the pooja ceremony with Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli entering the venue have been shared by the paparazzo Kamlesh Nand on his Instagram handle. These clips have gone viral on social media with netizens already declaring SSMB29 as "the baap of all Indian films."

SS Rajamouli's previous film was the 2022 global blockbuster RRR featured Jr NTR and Ram Charan. The period actioner became the first Indian film to win as Oscar for Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu. On the other hand, Mahesh Babu's last movie was the 2024 action thriller Guntur Kaaram, which received negative reviews and was a box office failure.
