Punjabi pop sensation Diljit Dosanjh had a fascinating conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he proposed the idea of hosting a music festival in India that's even bigger than Coachella. Diljit believes India's rich cultural heritage would be the perfect foundation for such an event, showcasing the country's diverse musical talents.
During their conversation, PM Modi asked Diljit about his experiences performing at global music festivals. Diljit humbly replied that while festivals like Coachella are massive, India has the potential to host something even bigger, attracting visitors from around the world. PM Modi was receptive to Diljit's idea, sharing his own vision for creating a global creative movement with India at its center. He emphasized the country's potential to unite the world's creative communities, citing India's thriving film industry and diverse musical heritage.
What happens in the Coachella music festival?
Coachella is a world-renowned annual music and arts festival, held in California's Coachella Valley. Since its debut in 1999, it has become a cultural phenomenon, attracting thousands of music enthusiasts globally. The festival takes place in Indio, California, typically in mid-April, with the 2023 edition scheduled for April 14-23.

When Diljit Dosanjh became the first Punjabi to perform at the Coachella festival
Diljit Dosanjh made history by becoming the first Punjabi language singer to perform at the prestigious Coachella festival. In a humble tone, Diljit expressed his surprise at the opportunity, stating, "I didn't feel deserving, but it was God's will. Performing at Coachella was a huge deal, especially since I was the first from India."
Although performing at Coachella wasn't a lifelong dream, Diljit considered it a significant milestone. He reflected on his journey, saying, "I'm not a trained musician, yet I receive amazing opportunities.” He shared the stage with international music sensations on Day 2 of Coachella's first weekend, alongside powerhouse performers like Blackpink, Charli XCX, Labrinth, and Kid Laroi in 2023.
