Vaishnavi's academic journey started at Fatima School in Gonda. She then moved to Delhi, earning an Economics degree from Lady Shri Ram College and later completing her Master’s at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
At just 26 years old, Vaishnavi Paul from Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, secured the 62nd rank in the highly competitive Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2022. Her achievement has brought immense pride to her family and community, symbolizing perseverance and grit.
The dream of becoming an IAS or IPS officer is cherished by many but achieved by few due to the rigorous nature of the UPSC process, which includes preliminary exams, mains, and a final interview. Vaishnavi’s success came on her fourth attempt, a testament to her resilience and determination.
Hailing from a family with her father running a business and her mother working as a teacher, Vaishnavi’s path was anything but smooth. Her journey demanded relentless focus and self-belief, driven by her aspiration to make a meaningful impact as a civil servant.
Her fascination with the civil services began during her childhood. Watching her father engrossed in the news and reading newspapers sparked her curiosity about administrative roles. Inspired by the work of District Magistrates and police officials, she saw civil service as a way to contribute to society. A pivotal influence on her journey was IAS officer Roshan Jacob, who once served as the District Magistrate of Gonda.
Vaishnavi's academic journey started at Fatima School in Gonda. She then moved to Delhi, earning an Economics degree from Lady Shri Ram College and later completing her Master’s at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
One memorable moment from her UPSC interview was a question about managing strained relationships between key officials as a District Magistrate. She impressed the panel with her confident and thoughtful response, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative approach to rebuild trust and cooperation.
Vaishnavi's path to success was marked by persistence and learning from setbacks. She cleared the prelims on her first attempt but couldn’t advance past the mains. Her third attempt saw her clear both the prelims and mains but fall short in the interview. Instead of being disheartened, she took the time to reassess her strategy, returning with renewed vigor to ultimately excel in her fourth attempt.
Vaishnavi’s story is a powerful reminder that perseverance and a clear vision can turn dreams into reality.
