Tanu didn’t always dream of being a civil servant. She started her career as a dental surgeon after earning her BDS degree from Subharthi Medical College, Meerut. But despite her accomplishments, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing.
Beating the UPSC exam has long been perceived as a challenge no one can meet, one requiring tireless effort, uncompromising dedication, and an intrinsic sense of purpose. Out of the millions who embarked on this arduous journey, IAS officer Tanu Jain is the very epitome of humanity and resilience.
Tanu didn’t always dream of being a civil servant. She started her career as a dental surgeon after earning her BDS degree from Subharthi Medical College, Meerut. But despite her accomplishments, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. The desire to make a broader impact drew her toward the daunting path of the UPSC.
It was not, however, a smooth ride for her. In her very first attempt in 2012, she had, with only two months of preparation, cleared the prelims but could not go further into the mains. Tanu did not give up. She continued her efforts until, in her third attempt in 2014, she was able to grab an impressive rank of 648th. A year later, she joined the Armed Forces Headquarters Service, which turned out to be the starting point of a new fulfilling chapter.
Now serving as the Assistant Director at DRDO, Tanu has become a guiding light for aspiring civil servants. She is known for her keen interview-taking skills, often sharing her expertise through mock interviews at Drishti IAS coaching. Her motivational speeches resonate deeply with those navigating the ups and downs of UPSC preparation.
But Tanu’s story isn’t just about professional achievements—it’s also about finding balance. Married to fellow IAS officer Vatsalya Pandit, she embraces life’s personal joys alongside her demanding career. She often shares glimpses of her world on Instagram, from cherished moments with her husband and son to snapshots of her work and travels. With over 86,000 followers, her online presence reflects a blend of inspiration and relatability, making her a favorite among aspirants and admirers alike.
Tanu's story reminds us that success is much more than reaching the summit. It is about hanging in there, discovering, and using your platform positively to help others. Such a story is a testament of believing in oneself and showing the courage to pursue when it feels right, far from easy.
