Meet man who overcame poverty and severe injuries, and became one of India's youngest IPS officers at 22 with an AIR of 570 in the UPSC exam.
The Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE) is considered one of the toughest and most prestigious exams in India. It opens doors to various high-ranking positions in the Indian government, such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Over the years, several individuals have risen above their difficult circumstances to crack this exam, inspiring millions. One such inspiring story is that of Safin Hasan, who became the youngest IPS officer in India.
Safin Hasan was born in July 1995 in a humble family in Palanpur, Gujarat. His parents worked hard to provide for him despite their limited resources. His mother worked as a cook, and his father carried bricks during the day. In the evenings, they set up a stall to sell boiled eggs to make ends meet. The family had faced tough times since the year 2000 when both parents lost their jobs at a diamond unit, which added to their financial struggles.
Despite the hardships, Safin was a bright student and received support from his school, SKM High School, which waived his fees for classes 11 and 12. The spark to join the civil services came to him early in life when a district collector visited his school. The respect and admiration that the officer received left a lasting impression on young Safin and motivated him to aim for the prestigious UPSC exam.
With the support of his relatives, Safin pursued engineering in college, but his dream of cracking the UPSC exam remained his ultimate goal. In 2017, he faced a major setback when he was severely injured in an accident on his way to take the UPSC exam. Despite his injuries, he appeared for the exam and later underwent multiple surgeries and physiotherapy sessions. His resilience and determination paid off when he secured an All-India Rank (AIR) of 570 in the same year.
Today, Safin Hasan’s story of perseverance and dedication serves as a beacon of hope for millions who aspire to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
