M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran's journey is a testament to resilience and determination, shining as a beacon of hope for those who face the barriers of limited privilege. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Prabhakaran's path to becoming an IAS officer is nothing short of extraordinary.
Born into a farming family, Prabhakaran's life had been surrounded by financial struggles and problems in his family. The fight of his father with alcoholism put all pressure on the mother and sister to keep their family running. He was prepared by these hard times to deal with adversity.
Despite the responsibilities, Prabhakaran's aspirations never lost their sheen. He had abandoned his educational plans to help out in his family's sawmill business. Yet, his heart remained set on joining the Indian Administrative Service.
With his sister's marriage relieving the family of some of the burdens, Prabhakaran used this chance to resume his education. Managing several responsibilities at the same time, he financed his younger brother's schooling while studying. His hard work took him to the renowned Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology in Vellore, where he pursued a course in civil engineering and established himself as an exemplary professional.
Prabhakaran's grit showed through while he was struggling to work at the same time while studying college. His abject living situation-sleeping on the platforms of St. Thomas Mount railway station-showcased his dedication to studies. This finally bore fruit in one great achievement: admission to Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) in 2014.
With his eyes set on the UPSC examination, Prabhakaran had to face a series of failures but never gave up. Each failure made him stronger. On his fourth attempt, he got an All India Rank of 101 and fulfilled his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
Prabhakaran's life story is one powerful reminder that grit and tenacity can win against the greatest of challenges. His life inspires us to push beyond limits and pursue our goals with unyielding determination.
