IAS officer Sreenath K's journey from a railway porter in Kerala to achieving his dream through hard work, determination, and free WiFi inspires many.
The story of IAS officer Sreenath K is an inspiring example of how hard work, determination, and perseverance can help individuals change their destiny and achieve extraordinary success.
Sreenath, a native of Munnar, Kerala, worked as a porter at the Ernakulam railway station to support his family. As the sole breadwinner, he carried passengers’ luggage daily, earning only Rs. 400-500. Despite the financial struggles, he remained dedicated to his responsibilities while harboring a dream to change his life through education.
Balancing his demanding job, Sreenath started preparing for the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) exam. Limited finances meant he could not afford expensive coaching classes or study materials. However, he found a way to overcome this hurdle with the help of his smartphone and free WiFi provided at the railway station. Using these resources, he accessed online study materials, videos, and mock tests, proving that ambition and determination could pave the way to success.
In January 2016, the government introduced free WiFi at the Mumbai Central Railway Station, a facility that became a game-changer for Sreenath. Armed with his phone, a memory card, earbuds, and his sheer willpower, he dedicated his free hours at the station to studying. His efforts bore fruit when he successfully cleared the KPSC exam, earning him a government job.
However, Sreenath wasn’t satisfied with just one accomplishment. Determined to reach even greater heights, he set his sights on the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Despite facing challenges, he remained steadfast in his journey. On his fourth attempt, he achieved his ultimate goal of becoming an IAS officer, a feat that brought immense pride to his family and community.
Sreenath’s story highlights that success doesn’t depend on wealth or privilege but on determination, resourcefulness, and a relentless pursuit of one’s dreams.
