Amit initially chose to receive a nominal salary of just Rs 1, prioritizing his commitment to the role over financial rewards.
UPSC exams are one of the toughest exams in India and it is no small feat to crack it with numerous aspirants taking the exams each year. And, some people have tough spirits that they end up cracking every exam at every stage. Today we will talk about the inspiring success story of IAS officer Amit Kataria who achieved the AIR 18th UPSC examination in 2003, which paved the way for him to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
According to several news reports, With an estimated net worth of Rs 8.90 crore, Kataria is the richest IAS official in India.
One prominent member of the 2004 Chhattisgarh cadre of the IAS is Amit Kataria. After serving on central deputation for seven years, he just returned to the state. Kataria, originally from Delhi NCR, secured the 18th rank in the 2003 UPSC examination.
He served as the Department of Rural Development's Joint Secretary until recently. Before this, he served in several high-ranking capacities in Chhattisgarh, including as Collector of many districts.
Amit Kataria is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). His LinkedIn page states that his schooling is from Delhi Public School in RK Puram.
Kataria's family's real estate assets, rather than his civil servant pay, are his main source of wealth. According to a News18 report, the family business is operating across Delhi NCR and generates crores in revenue.
Amit Kataria is currently serving in Chhattisgarh after a seven-year central deputation. Amit first initially chose to receive a nominal salary of just Rs 1 in an astounding display of his devotion to public service, putting his passion to the position ahead of monetary benefits.
Born in Gurugram, Kataria became well-known as the Collector of Bastar after wearing sunglasses to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There was a lot of online discussion about this encounter. Wearing sunglasses at a meeting with a high-ranking official was seen as inappropriate by many. Following the 2015 incident that took place during Modi's trip to Bastar, Kataria received a notice of show-cause.
Kataria, who has a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi, is among the top 10 wealthiest IAS officers in India. His family's real estate businesses in Delhi and the neighbouring areas provide a sizable income, which accounts for the majority of his wealth.
At first, Kataria received a symbolic pay of just Rs 1 despite his high earnings. His wife, Asmita Handa, helps support the family by earning lakhs of rupees annually as a commercial pilot. Kataria frequently shares photos from his travels on Instagram and is well-known for his love of travel. His estimated net worth is Rs 8.9 crore, per sources. Kataria's journey from IIT graduate to renowned government official and millionaire has made him a well-known figure among India's top civil officers, much like IAS Tina Dabi and IPS Amit Lodha.
