Madhulatha, the daughter of agricultural laborers, managed to pay only Rs 17,500 last month to secure her admission. But the family, struggling financially and with her father unwell, couldn't afford the additional Rs 2.51 lakh.
Badavath Madhulatha, hailing from Telangana's Rajanna Sircilla district, achieved an 824th rank in this year’s JEE under the scheduled tribe (ST) category and earned a spot at IIT Patna. However, her family couldn't gather the Rs 2.5 lakh needed for tuition and other expenses to pursue a B. Tech in engineering physics.
Madhulatha, the daughter of agricultural laborers, managed to pay only Rs 17,500 last month to secure her admission. But the family, struggling financially and with her father unwell, couldn't afford the additional Rs 2.51 lakh.
To support her family, Madhulatha had to graze goats in her village. Her situation came to light when the faculty of Tribal Welfare Junior College, where she completed her 12th grade, appealed for help as the fee payment deadline of July 27 loomed.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped up to provide financial support to a tribal girl who, despite securing a seat at IIT Patna, was herding goats due to financial hardships.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy congratulated Madhulatha on securing a seat at the prestigious institution despite her financial challenges. He announced on 'X' (formerly Twitter) that the tribal welfare department had released the necessary funds for her education.
The Chief Minister expressed his hope that Madhulatha would continue excelling academically and bringing Telangana pride.
According to orders from the Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, Madhulatha sought Rs 2,51,831 in financial aid. The state government waived Rs 1 lakh in tuition fees and provided Rs 1,51,831 for academic fees, hostel fees, gymkhana, transport, mess fees, laptop and other charges.
