Will Rohit Sharma travel to Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy opening ceremony? Here's what BCCI secretary says

Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has voiced uncertainty about whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will take part in the ICC's pre-tournament activities for the 2025 Champions Trophy. These activities, which include a press conference and an official photo shoot, are set to occur in Lahore.

While Pakistan is the host nation for the event, India's matches will be played in the UAE due to the ongoing political tensions between the two countries. Nevertheless, all pre-tournament media events, including captains' day and other engagements, will still be held in Pakistan. These events allow team leaders to gather for photo opportunities with trophies and interact with the media.

The final decision on whether the ICC will hold these events in Pakistan or move them to the UAE is still pending.

"Whether Rohit Sharma travels to Pakistan for ICC media engagements is something that's still not decided," Saikia told PTI.

The Indian cricket board is currently considering whether captain Rohit Sharma will participate in pre-tournament events in Pakistan, including a photo shoot and press conference. A decision on this matter is still pending.

The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, with India scheduled to play their matches in Dubai due to security concerns that have prevented travel to Pakistan.

During the 2023 ICC World Cup, when Pakistan came to India, Babar Azam and his team followed tournament protocol by wearing jerseys that featured the host country's name.

This year marks the first time the Champions Trophy is being held under a Hybrid Model, as the BCCI could not obtain permission from the Indian government for travel to Pakistan.
