Manoj Tiwary reveals why he called Gautam Gambhir ‘hypocrite’ post BGT, recalls his old overseas coaches remark

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has been embroiled in controversy over his sharp criticisms of the present national team head coach, Gautam Gambhir. Tiwary called Gambhir a 'hypocrite' as a result of the team's recent performances, which included defeats at home against New Zealand and losses in Australia. He was very direct in his comments, questioning several of Gambhir's decisions as a coach, especially about some of the players he chose to play for him and the people he has on his coaching staff.

Notably, Gambhir had chosen Ryan Ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel for the support staff after he was appointed as the head coach of Team India. According to Tiwary in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Gambhir had criticized the BCCI earlier for bringing foreign coaches. Ironically, he has done that himself now.

"Why did I call him a hypocrite? It is because of one of his interviews if you remember. In one of the interviews, he said, 'All these foreign coaches, all the guys who come from abroad, have no emotions, they have no feelings. They earn money and enjoy themselves.' When the time was there for him to select all the Indian coaches and all the Indian-origin support staff, why did he put forward the names of Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel? He got everything he wanted but he is not able to produce the results. Actions don't match his words, so I called him a hypocrite," said Tiwary.

Despite having the support staff he had wanted, Gambhir has encountered some disappointing outcomes as the Indian team's coach. This has included the ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, a home Test sweep by New Zealand, and, most recently, a 1-3 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Tiwary even made a comment questioning Gambhir as the head coach since he hasn't had substantial coaching experience but has just been a mentor in the IPL for most of his career.

"You tell me, before taking up coaching in the Indian team, did he have any coaching experience in first-class cricket or IPL or anywhere in the world? Did he coach any one of the teams? Mentoring and coaching are totally different. That is where everyone mixes up. That is where fans mix up, and a lot of others mix up. Coaching and mentoring are totally opposite. When you don't have experience, how do you expect to perform? That is what is happening right now, and the results are there for everyone to see," said Tiwary.
