Deepti Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian women cricketer to take two six-wicket hauls in the 50-over format.
India's star all-rounder Deepti Sharma delivered a match-winning performance during the third and final ODI against West Indies in Vadodara. She made history by becoming the first Indian women cricketer to take two six-wicket hauls in the 50-over format. Deepti Sharma is only the second women's bowler to achieve this milestone, following in the footsteps of South Africa's Suune Luus.
Her exceptional figures of 6/31 not only secured India's victory but also etched her name in the record books. Prior to this, Deepti's career-best bowling figures were 6/20 against Sri Lanka in 2016. She now joins the elite list of Indian bowlers who have achieved this feat in ODIs, alongside Mamatha Maben (6/10 against Sri Lanka in 2004) and Jhulan Goswami (6/31 against New Zealand in 2011).
Thanks to Deepti's outstanding spell, the hosts restricted West Indies to a below-par total of 162 runs. Fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur also played a crucial role, finishing with figures of 4/29.
Although West Indies' Chinelle Henry and Shemaine Campbell put up a fight with the bat, their efforts were in vain. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian side chased down the target comfortably, securing a clean sweep of the series with a 3-0 victory. Deepti Sharma showcased her all-round skills by scoring an unbeaten 39 runs off 48 balls, emerging as the highest run-scorer in the match.
The Women in Blue had already sealed the three-match ODI series with convincing wins in the first two matches. Deepti Sharma's remarkable achievement of 123 wickets in ninety-eight matches, including three five-wicket hauls, solidifies her position as a key player in the Indian women's cricket team.
