Renuka Thakur showcased exceptional skill with the new ball, leading India to a dominant victory over a West Indies team plagued by self-inflicted errors.
In a stunning display of skill and dominance, stylish opener Smriti Mandhana continued her impressive form with a brilliant knock setting the stage for India's record-breaking victory over a struggling West Indies team in the first Women's ODI in Vadodara on Sunday.
Mandhana's elegant innings of 91 off 102 balls laid the foundation for India's total of 314 for nine, allowing the middle-order batsmen like Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, Richa Ghosh, and Jemimah Rodrigues to capitalize and push the score past 300.
The West Indies, on the other hand, faltered in their response gifting wickets to the dominant Indian bowlers. They were bowled out for a mere 103 runs in 26.2 overs, with pacer Renuka Thakur achieving her first five-wicket haul in ODIs. This victory marked India's largest margin of victory over the West Indies in terms of runs.
The West Indies' run chase got off to a disastrous start with Qiana Joseph being run out on the first ball, followed by the quick dismissal of skipper Hayley Mathews and Rashad Williams. Renuka's exceptional bowling performance, supported by young pacer Titas Sadhu, left the West Indies reeling at 34 for six.
Renuka's impressive in-swinging deliveries proved too much for the West Indies batsmen, with Shabika Gajnabi falling victim to her fourth wicket. The game was effectively sealed in India's favor as the West Indies struggled to cope with the relentless pressure from the Indian bowlers.
