IND-W vs IRE-W: Jemimah Rodrigues maiden international century powers India to their highest ever total in women’s ODIs

The Indian women's cricket team made history in Rajkot by setting a new ODI record. With Jemimah Rodrigues leading the way with an amazing unbeaten 102 off just 91 balls, the team amassed an astonishing 370 for five against Ireland in the second ODI on Sunday.

This total surpasses their previous record of 358/2, which they set against Ireland in Potchefstroom in 2017. They recently equaled that mark against the West Indies in Vadodara, scoring 358/5.

Smriti Mandhana (73) and Pratika Rawal (67) batted first and put together an amazing 156-run partnership for the opening wicket. This is their third 100-plus opening stand in only their fifth match as a pair at the top of the order. They have totaled 468 runs, with an amazing average of 93.60 per partnership.

Rodrigues drew a lot of attention as she achieved her first international century. She and Harleen Deol (89) formed a good partnership, scoring 183 runs for the third wicket.

Rodrigues has scored 1,089 runs in 41 matches, average 29.43. In addition to her century, she has six fifties.

ESPNcricinfo reports that in 26 home matches, she has scored 663 runs at an average of 27.62, including one century and three fifties. She has also scored 426 runs in away matches, averaging 32.76.

Ireland's wicket-takers were Orla Prendergast (2/75), Arlene Kelly (2/82) and Georgina Dempsey (1/42).

India currently leads the three-match series 1-0 after winning the opening ODI by six wickets at the same venue. The Indian side, led by Smriti Mandhana, is relatively experimental, since the selectors elected to rest regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur and numerous veteran players for this series.
