CRICKET
With five centuries and as many half-centuries to her name, Mandhana's dominance with the bat has been unparalleled.
Smriti Mandhana has been on a remarkable run of form in 2024, breaking records and setting new standards in women's cricket. During the first ODI against the West Indies women's cricket team in Vadodara, she achieved a world record by becoming the first women's cricketer to score over 1600 runs in a single year. Mandhana's total of 1602 runs across formats in 2024 is now the highest ever recorded in the history of women's cricket.
With five centuries and as many half-centuries to her name, Mandhana's dominance with the bat has been unparalleled. She surpassed Laura Wolvaardt's previous record of 1593 runs in 2024, solidifying her place as one of the top performers in the sport. Looking ahead, Mandhana has the potential to reach the 1700-run mark with two more ODIs scheduled for India in 2024.
In addition to her individual achievements, Mandhana also played a key role in ending India's six-year wait for a 100-run partnership for the opening wicket at home. Alongside Pratika Rawal, who made her mark as India's 150th ODI player, Mandhana contributed to a 110-run partnership in just 23.2 overs. Despite missing out on her half-century, Pratika's 40 off 69 balls set the stage for a successful innings.
The team effort was further highlighted by Harleen Doel's crucial 44 runs, Richa Ghosh's impressive 26-run knock off just 13 balls, and Jemimah Rodrigues' quick 31 off 19 balls.
