Over the past two years, India's fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has proven himself to be one of the most reliable and consistent performers in the shortest format of the game.
Team India's fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has a chance to make history in the upcoming third T20I match against England in Rajkot on Tuesday. Arshdeep, who has been an important bowler for India lately, is only two wickets away from hitting the remarkable 100-wicket mark in Twenty20 Internationals. He will become the fastest pacer to reach this milestone in Men's T20Is if he succeeds, surpassing Haris Rauf in the process.
Over the past few years, the left-arm Indian seamer has been one of the most reliable bowlers in the T20 format, taking 98 wickets in 62 T20Is. On the other hand, Rauf, who is now the fastest bowler to reach 100 wickets, achieved this feat in his 72nd game against Canada in New York during the T20 World Cup 2024.
With Rashid Khan leading the pack with 100 wickets in just 53 games, spinners have dominated the T20 landscape. However, with one more match played than the Afghan spin hero, Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal is right behind him.
Arshdeep cemented his status as one of the best bowlers in the game's short format on Saturday, January 25, when he was named the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year 2024 for his crucial role in India's World Cup victory.
"Feels great to win the ICC Men's T20I cricketer of the year award. I am really grateful and thankful to God. Thankful to everyone who worked behind the scenes, and credit goes to the sports staff and all the players as well, who helped to get the best out of me," Arshdeep said in a video posted by the ICC.
Arshdeep demonstrated his skill throughout 2024 by claiming 36 wickets in 18 games. He was included in the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2024 together with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, quick bowler Jasprit Bumrah, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma for his outstanding performance.
Arshdeep demonstrated his abilities in both powerplay and death bowling at the T20 World Cup in the America, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker with Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi after taking 17 wickets at a remarkable average of 12.64 over eight games. His exceptional performance was essential to India's tournament victory.
