Bumrah had to leave the dressing room and the stadium during the second session on Day 2. After bowling just one over after lunch he was unable to return to the field.
Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna provided a significant update on captain Jasprit Bumrah's injury during Day 2 of the fifth Border-Gavaskar series Test in Sydney. Krishna revealed that Bumrah experienced a back spasm and is currently being monitored by the medical team ahead of the crucial match in the series.
Bumrah had to leave the dressing room and the stadium during the second session on Day 2. After bowling just one over after lunch he was unable to return to the field. In Bumrah's absence Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna stepped up to take on the pace bowling responsibilities for India successfully bowling out Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah was observed clutching his back as he exited the field, subsequently changing into his training attire. The talented right-arm pacer was required to undergo scans and was accompanied by the support staff to a team vehicle. Upon his return to the Sydney venue Bumrah proceeded directly to the dressing room.
During a press conference, Prasidh Krishna confirmed that Bumrah had suffered a back spasm. He further stated that the medical team is closely monitoring Bumrah's condition and will provide updates on his status in due course.
"Jasprit Bumrah has a back spasm. Medical team is monitoring him so let's see," Prasidh Krishna said during the press conference after Day 2 in Sydney (via RevSportz).
Jasprit Bumrah's workload has been a major concern throughout the series as India has struggled to provide their key pacer with adequate rest. Despite the early finishes in some matches and a drawn game in Brisbane, Bumrah's demanding 53-over performance in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne took a toll on him.
Bumrah bowled extensively in both innings in Melbourne and the short recovery time before the Sydney Test only exacerbated his accumulated fatigue. This was evident when he was forced to leave the field with an injury after bowling just 10 overs in the first innings of the Sydney Test.
It is clear that Bumrah's heavy workload combined with insufficient rest has contributed to the physical strain he is currently experiencing. Moving forward, it will be crucial for the Indian team management to carefully manage Bumrah's workload to ensure his long-term fitness and performance.
