Origin of Pink Test

Known as the 'Pink Test', the first Test of the year at the Sydney Cricket Ground sees the entire venue adorned in pink, from the stands to the stumps on the field. This tradition was established in 2009 in honor of Jane McGrath, the late wife of Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath, who tragically lost her battle with cancer in 2005. Australian players don pink caps during this match to show their support for cancer awareness.

In a recent announcement, it was revealed that the SCG Test starting on Friday will serve as a platform to raise funds and awareness for individuals affected by cancer. The proceeds from the match will go towards the McGrath Cancer Care Nurse, providing assistance to those battling the disease.

Jane McGrath Day at the SCG

The Ladies Stand at the SCG is ceremoniously renamed as the Jane McGrath Stand on the third day of the Sydney Test, now known as Jane McGrath Day. The last time India competed at the SCG, the match ended in a draw, with the Australians squandering several opportunities on the final day.
