This missed opportunity came as a lifeline for Labuschagne, who has been the leading run-scorer for Australia in the World Test Championship.

Following the dropped catch, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was visibly frustrated with Jaiswal's mistake. In a widely circulated video on the internet, Rohit's displeasure was evident as Jaiswal's error allowed Labuschagne to continue his innings.

The incident occurred during the second ball of the 40th over of Australia's second innings in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Following the reprieve, Labuschagne capitalized on the opportunity and secured his second half-century of the match. The right-handed batsman's performance will be pivotal to Australia's chances of emerging victorious in a closely contested match.

Australia managed to secure a crucial lead of 105 runs in the first innings, but Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India's resurgence in the second innings by dismissing four batsmen for just 30 runs in 14 overs. Despite his inconsistent performance in the ongoing series, Mohammed Siraj displayed promise on Sunday by claiming two wickets.

Bumrah's impressive performance included clean bowling Sam Konstas (8) in the morning session to reach 150 dismissals in the World Test Championship. He further showcased his skill by taking two wickets in a single over during the afternoon session, dismantling Australia's middle order by removing Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh in quick succession. Bumrah continued his dominance by dismissing Alex Carey on the last ball of his subsequent over.

With a total of 8 wickets in the ongoing match and 29 in the series thus far, Bumrah is on the verge of breaking Harbhajan Singh's record for the most wickets in an India-Australia Test series. The overall record for the most wickets in a Test series for India is held by former spinner Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, who claimed 35 wickets during the India-England Test series in 1972-73.
