IND vs AUS 4th Test: Jasprit Bumrah scripts history in Melbourne, breaks Kapil Dev's record to become....

Jasprit Bumrah is currently in exceptional form during the ongoing series in Australia, establishing himself as India's standout bowler. Leading India to victory in the first Test in Perth, Bumrah began the series with an impressive 8-wicket haul. In the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, he claimed 4 wickets, followed by a remarkable 9-wicket performance at the Gabba. Bumrah continued his dominance by dismissing four Australian batsmen in their first innings of the current match.

Having made his Test debut in Australia during the 2018/19 series, Bumrah made history by surpassing Kapil Dev's record for the most wickets taken by an Indian pacer in a Test series in Australia. With 29 wickets already under his belt and one Test remaining, Bumrah has the opportunity to become the first Indian pacer to take over 30 wickets in a series. In the 2020/21 tour, he claimed 11 wickets in three Tests.

Jasprit Bumrah also became the fastest Indian pacer to reach the landmark of 200 wickets in Test cricket. The legendary Kapil Dev earlier held the record in 50 matches in the Test against West Indies back in March 1983 in Port of Spain. Bumrah reached the landmark in his 44th Test, thereby also becoming the joint second-fastest Indian to 200 Test wickets along with Ravindra Jadeja. 

During the 2018/19 series, Bumrah played a crucial role in India's historic Test series win Down Under, taking 21 wickets. Manoj Prabhakar currently holds the fourth spot with 19 wickets.

Thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy's century and his partnership with Washington Sundar, India made a strong comeback on the third day, posting a total of 369 runs. Australia, who scored 474 in their first innings, currently hold a 105-run lead after dismissing India.

With Australia having four wickets remaining, they may look to accelerate their scoring in the upcoming sessions. The five-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1.
