Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar have combined to score 105 runs for the eighth wicket, facing 195 balls.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar have formed a solid partnership at the MCG, propelling India past the 300-run mark. Reddy was batting impressively on 85 off 119 balls, while Sundar was holding his own on 40 off 115 when bad light, later turning into rain, interrupted play for an early Tea break. At that point, India had reached a score of 326/7 in 97 overs, trailing Australia by 148 runs. The partnership between Reddy and Sundar had reached 105 runs off 195 balls by the end of the second session.
Reddy led a spirited counter-attack for India, but Australia had the upper hand in the first session, dismissing Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, leaving India with their last recognized batting pair. When Lunch was called, Reddy was on 40 off 61 balls, with India at 244/7, still trailing Australia by 230 runs.
Despite Reddy's strong start, India continued to take unnecessary risks with their running between the wickets. He entered the crease early in the match after Rishabh Pant squandered a good start by going after Scott Boland. India was still behind by 280 runs at that point. Ravindra Jadeja took 24 balls to get off the mark, but his vigil was eventually ended by Lyon in the 65th over. The onus is now on India's last all-rounders to rescue the team. There were two mix-ups in the first hour of play, with Pant sending Jadeja back in the first instance, and the reverse happening in the second.
